Does striving to be better in living life mean I am not content with the life God has given me?

When I consider the ideas and philosophy of working to improve the way one lives life, the nagging thought that a desire to grow and improve is simply demonstrating that I am not content in the life that I have.
Phrases like “In whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” from Philippians 4:11 (https://my.bible.com/bible/1/PHP.4.11.KJV) and “seeking not your own” come to mind — yet, there is “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” from 1 Corinthians 10:31 and “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” from Colossians 3:23 that seem to encourage an attitude of desiring improvement and excellence.
Even in reviewing these verses, the idea comes that it may not so much be the bettering of life that is a problem, rather the heart attitude motivating the improvement.
Are you seeking to run your home more effectively so that peace and comfort is attainable for you. Those things are not bad — they are very helpful to an enjoyable home — but they are not be our motivation. A home that is able to glorify God in serving your family or others, that is a motivation that warrants the bettering of the systems in your home.
As people created to know God to glorify Him, that ought be to our motivation for all. Even the seemingly little things of cleaning and doing our laundry or bigger things of learning a skill can be done with the focus of living in communion with God and glorifying Him.
This seems all too preachy . . . and maybe I am overthinking things, but these are my thoughts from this week’s Five Minute Friday prompt.
Each Friday, the Five Minute Friday community gathers online and writes for five minutes. Timed and unedited we write, then share our stories. What is included today is an excerpt from today’s writing.
My hope is that for you these five minutes brings encouragement and direction as you seek to live a faith-filled and purposeful life.
So much of the writing that I do, is simply me processing the realities of my unpredictable life. Yet, even as I process, I greatly desire to help and encourage you as you learn how to include well those things in your life that move you forward. If you are desiring to live more purposefully – if faith-filled intention is a reality you desire to grow in your life, I invite you to join me on the journey. I don’t have all the answers, but those that I have, I promise to share. And you can know that I am praying for you and cheering you on as you seek to walk a faith-filled, purposeful life.
