Our Great Encourager

In all the words here this month on encourage, it seems only reasonable to consider the reason why we encourage.

Do we encourage because of what we receive from it?

I think not. Though most are grateful we sought to lift them up, there are those who are never aware enough to realize what we do, and hence can not offer any thanks or recognition for the encouragement.

Do we encourage for what it does for us?

We might enjoy knowing we are lifting others up and appreciate that we do something for the benefit of another. Still I do not believe this alone is a valid reason to continue encouraging. There are times encouraging others is hard! It wears on us, and can be a thankless task.

“We encourage, because we have Someone Who encourages us.”

God loves us, Christ died to make a way for us to come to Him, and the Holy Spirit works in us to do the work of God. Because of His love in us and work for us we can reach out and encourage others. Living in the power of God in us, means we are simply His hands and feet, or His words and actions. Living as such allows the encouragement of God to flow through us to others.

That may seem supernatural and a bit vague, but the mystery of God is something that we will never fully understand until we are in glory with Him. I am content, knowing the encouragement I give, is from Him. I don’t need the results, though they are fun to see; and I do not encourage in my own power, for He is the Great Encourager. Only in God, I can truly encourage others.
